marriage.

A brief thought on marriage.

It’s too idealistic, they argue. After all, lots of marriages end in divorce; lots of people have sex outside of marriage; and lots of great kids grow up without both biological parents. So why is there such a fight to maintain the traditional view and understanding of marriage?

Consider the tree.

We could define a tree as having roots, a trunk, branches and leaves. But when a wind storm breaks a tree off, leaving only a stump of the trunk and the roots hidden underground, no one would deny that it was still a tree—albeit a broken one.

In the same way, when we see people divorce, children grow up with only one parent, or people exploiting sex outside of marriage, it does not change what marriage is. Many things in our fallen world are not as they were intended; marriage is one of them.

I have hope for the family, and hope for marriage.
